Chapter Five Conclusion
The translation of Chinese online novels is quite complicated and is worthy of deep consideration because it involves complex and diverse cultural factors. With Peter Newmark’s semantic translation and communicative translation theory as a guide, the translator analyzes the difficulties presented in the translation process in detail and adopts effective methods to cope with the difficulties. To a certain extent, culture-loaded words are of great significance in translating Chinese web fictions. The translator needs to keep an eye on the special words between two languages and to ensure the translation to be smooth and accurate.
Through the analysis of the previous chapters, the following conclusions can be drawn: In light of social culture-loaded words and material culture-loaded words, the translator chooses literal translation, literal translation plus addition, transliteration plus addition, and paraphrase. In terms of linguistic cultural-loaded words and ecological culture-loaded words, literal translation, paraphrase, and idiomatic translation are mainly adopted. To sum up, methods including literal translation as well as literal translation plus addition are more suitable for the translation of social culture-loaded words and material culture-loaded words to maintain the taste and connotations of Chinese culture. And paraphrase is more applicable to the translation of linguistic culture-loaded words and ecological culture-loaded words to cater to the reading habits of overseas readers and to excite their interest.
