1 Introduction
This report is written on the basis of the translation project of an excerpted chapter fromTranslation in Global News co-written by Susan Bassnett and Esperanza Bielsa. The author’stranslation is Chapter One and part of Chapter Two, which is about the relationships among power,news and translation and the translation under the circumstances of globalization.
1.1 Pre-Translation Process
Reading Translation in Global News: The author read the source text carefully andthoroughly several times before embarking on the translation project. This period had taken theauthor a long time since many words and expressions are very difficult and complex tounderstand.Consulting related reference material about stylistics: This translation report was writtenfrom the perspective of stylistics, so before writing this report, the author referred to a great dealof books and other materials, such as Stylistics: A Practical Coursebook (Wright & Hope, 1995),Journalistic English: Style and Analysis (Zhang, 2004), and Stylistic Theory and Practice (Li,2011), which provided the author with detailed information of stylistics, such as its definition, thecontents, the studying methods and so on.
1.2 The Translation Process
The author’s translation is Chapter One and part of Chapter Two. The whole translationprocess was carried out through several steps: the first version of translation took a month as theauthor had done some research. Some mistakes were made in the first version because of theauthor’s misunderstanding of the source text and some were due to the improper using of wordsand expressions. In the second and third versions some amendments were made, including therefining of words and sentence structures. In addition, some difficult and uncertain places weretackled with the help of related reference materials and translation strategies. The translatingprocess was very crucial, so the author had to conduct lots of research and make many adjustmentsuntil the translation was mature.The whole report consists of five parts. Part I gives a brief introduction of the translationproject, which involves the background information, the selection of this translation project, thepreparations before translation, the translation process and later amendment. Part II makes ageneral introduction to Translation in Global News and its writers and analyzes the writing style ofthe text. Part III introduces some information about stylistics, such as its definition, thedevelopment of stylistics and its studying object and scope. Part IV deals with the analysis of thetranslation from the perspectives of stylistics-lexical category, sentence category, grammaticalcategory and the translation theory applied in the process. The last part is the conclusion of thewhole translation process and this report

2.1 About the Writers
Susan Bassnett is Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Professor in the Centre for Translation andComparative Cultural Studies. She was educated in several European countries, which gave her agrounding in diverse languages and cultures. She has lectured in universities around the world,and began her academic career in Italy, moving via the United States to the University of Warwick,where she set up a post-graduate Centre in intercultural studies that now has a thrivinginternational population of some 100 students.Esperanza Bielsa is a senior fellow of the Autonomous University of Barcelona Department ofSociology. She joined the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 2010, before that she served asa lecturer in sociology at the University of Leicester, University of Warwick Centre for Translationand Comparative Cultural Studies as a researcher, but also sociology instructor at the University ofGlasgow. She is the author of The Latin American Urban Cronica: Between Literature and MassCulture (2006) and co-editor
