Chapter One Introduction
1.1Background and Significance of the Research
Along with the international business cooperation increasing frequently and the amount of interpreting increasing rapidly, English interpretation has become an indispensable factor in the international business negotiation. Therefore, more and more scholars have paid much attention to the importance of interpreting. The research of business negotiation interpreting can promote the business negotiation, improve the efficiency of the communication, and realize the purpose of cooperation successfully. In addition, the research of business negotiation has great important and practical importance to the teachers ,students and practitioners.
In recent years, more and more scholars at home and abroad realize the importance of interpretation and made a lot of research. For example, the book Introducing Interpreting Studies wrote by Franz Pochhacker mainly introduces the basic concepts, history, theoretical model and so on.(Franz Pochhacker,2009) During many years’ development, western interpretation has formed a relatively mature theory system, mainly composed of conference interpreting. Moreover, the research of conference interpreting is mostly systematic. For instance, the book Conference Interpreting Explained wrote by Roderick Jones is set in the service of interpretation using in all kinds of international conferences, which mainly consist of the interpretation skills of consecutive interpretation and simultaneous interpretation. (Roderick Jones,1997)It is a practical and applied guide book of profound teaching and guiding significance. However, there is little research for other types of interpretation.
1.2 Review of Interpretation Development and Theory Research of Business Negotiation
In our countries, the current research subjects is far more diversified and the research contents tend to be more specialized than the interpretation researches in the past. The researches involve the theory, characteristics, methods and the quality of interpreters, which are the general summary of all types of interpretation. For example, the book Interpreting Technique wrote by Liu Heping mainly introduces the theories, methods and examples of interpretation skill training. Interpretation can be divided into several kinds, such as conference interpretation, medical interpretation, business interpretation according to the interpretation contents. For example, the book An Introduction to Business Interpretation wrote by Yin Xiaohong and Yang Ying introduces the relative contents and skills closed to business negotiation in detail.
