essary to innovate educational thoughts, then to reform educational rules. Inflexibility and conservation in teaching methods shackles students’ thoughts. Everything is prepared for the exam. No importance has been attached to students’ innovative thinking and innovative abilities. Reform on educational contents and teaching method is one of components of educational innovation. Instead of the traditional educational model in which books and teachers are the main parts, Centering students’ characters and innovative activities should be paid much attention of the public for the development of open mind.<BR>China’s traditional education has always given minimal attention to innovative education. In the times of knowledge economy, the lack of innovative talents has direct influence on the improvement of comprehensive strength of a country, which poses severe challenge to education. Innovative education is essential to solve many problems of China’s education. <BR>The present thesis discussed the importance of innovative education to China’s education reform from four perspectives. Based on the Marxist comprehensive outlook of human development and John Dewey’s education thoughts, the thesis explored the practical effects of the newly issued Outline on the on-going education reform. Firstly, from the history of China’s education reform, it can be seen that it has gradually put more focus on innovative education, for the social and economical development have demanded more and more innovative talents. Therefore, the importance of innovative education must be emphasized as the solution to the dilemma of China’s education and be firmly implemented. Secondly, innovative education is also an essential part of Marxist ideas on comprehensive human development and human nature. As a country with Marxist belief, Chinese education workers and policy-makers should fully understand the Marxist education ideas and enhance the development of innovative education. Thirdly, Dewey’s thoughts on education can provide abundant and practical sources to China’s education reform. We need to actively draw lessons from Dewey’s education thoughts and enrich the meaning of innovative education on both theoretical and practical levels. Finally, the education workers should gras
