1.0 Introduction

Americans are made up of people with different cultural backgrounds and different traditions. Rogoff and Morelli (1989) believed that majority of people know little about their cultural heritage. It tends to take behavior of people of dominant cultures as standard and other groups as variation. Today, some European people think that they almost know nothing about their cultural heritage and how it impacts their behavior, lives. Rogoff and Morelli (1989) proposed that for a pluralistic purpose, diversity of traditions, as well as advantages of each cultural heritage should be respected. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out cultural heritage education for children to allow them to value the strengths of their own cultures and pride when they integrate into a new community with different cultural heritage.
With the accelerating pace of globalization, global exchanges and interaction among multiple cultures are active than ever, degree of interdependence and association among the global communities has reached unprecedented levels, many problems with global impact and significance need to be resolved by the global society through working and cooperating together. This requires future citizens to have good awareness and skills of cross-cultural exchanges and cooperation. Thus the importance of cultural diversity education and cultural heritage education has been paid more and more attention (Simandiraki, 2006). Different cultures are significantly different in values and beliefs affecting behavior. To make young children have a positive impression towards cultural diversity to allow them to go through the impact of diverse cultures in their lives successfully, they should accept cross-cultural education to understand different cultures. They should be taught to treat differences between different cultures as the positive and have sympathy for other children with different cultural backgrounds (Missouri Department of Social Services, 2004). Multicultural education for young children teaches them to respect themselves and other children by learning to respecting similarities and differences among people with different cultural backgrounds. It also finds opportunities provided by multicultural differences to enhance mutual respect and understanding among young children (Missouri Department of Social Services, 2004). All in all, early childhood multicultural education is carried out for keeping the cultural diversity in the United States, it also helps children to adapt to the needs of future global competition and cooperation. This essay describes a project participated by teachers, children, parents and communities, through this project to implement early childhood multicultural education.
