摘 要
本文是以译代论的毕业论文,选取“How to Fix IBM”一文进行汉译。IBM公司作为计算机行业创始者之一,一直领导着行业的潮流。蓝色巨人IBM漫长的企业声明,几乎记录了整个IT行业的发展历程。但是20世纪80年代却开始走向衰落,业绩大幅度下滑,亏损严重,债务增长。“How to Fix IBM”一文分析了IBM发展中一些举措的不足之处,并从总体上对IBM的后续发展提出了建议。译者通过对此商务类文本的翻译练习,旨在初步探索此类文本的特点,学会运用正确的翻译技巧,帮助在翻译实践中做的更好。本文分为四个部分。第一部分介绍翻译选材的来源及特点;第二部分为相应的译文;第三部分结合具体的翻译例子,讨论这篇文章的翻译原则和翻译实践体会,指出翻译过程中遇到的问题及相应的解决办法。

Abstract
IBM, one of the founders of the computer industry, has been leading the industry. The lengthy IBM corporate statement, records almost the entire course of development of the IT industry. But since 1980s, it began to decline. Its performance kept worsening, losses and debts grew. In the essay "How to Fix IBM", the author analyzes the shortcomings of IBM development initiatives, and gives his suggestions for IBM regarding to how to grow in the future.
This paper is translation practice in place of thesis. The purpose of translating this text is to get to know the characteristics of this type of texts, learn to adapt the right schemes to translating and thus develop translating skills in general. The paper is divided into four parts. The first part is an introduction to the source text and language properties of the original text. In the second part there is the Chinese version. In the last part, Part III, the translator discusses, with specific examples from the texts, about the general translating principles that are used, in addition to some remarks about the problems encountered and the corresponding solutions adopted in this translating practice.

How to Fix IBM is selected from Forbes. Forbes is a leading source for reliable business news and financial information. The essays in Forbes are perceived as professional and authentic.
1.2 Linguistic characteristics of the text
The text is related to business in IT field, therefore, it is characterized by a certain professionalism in terms of words. For instance, words about IT such as Cloud services and mobile applications, etc, and acquisition in business field. The writing style can also be observed through the use of colloquial expressions like folk, bonehead, It is that easy, etc. Moreover, since the author is writing this essay in his column, he gives his own opinion, even in a criticizing way. For example, comments like bonehead move, horribly inefficient, The best they can do is to try to survive until reason returns to IBM’s leadership, if ever.
The sentence structures are not sophisticated as well. There is quite an equal display of long and short sentences, which not only makes the essay less difficult to read, but also gives special emphasis on some important points.
3. Review of the Translating Principles and Methods
The three-character“信、达、雅” translating principle(usually translated as “faithfulness”, “Expressiveness” and “Elegance”) has been regarded as guiding principles for translation for many years in China. In my understanding, it suggests that a translator should be faithful to the source text while doing the translation. No addition and omission of the original meaning should find existence in the target text. Moreover, only when the translation is in accordance with the structure, style, and spirit of the original, can it be regarded as more ideal. Following this principle, I adopted translating methods as following.
3.1 Literal Translation and Free Translation
Literal translation is generally considered the best way to be faithful to the source language text. It retains the rhetoric of the original, so it is as lively as the original. It reflects every meaningful detail of the original text, hence produce the
