However, the nature of translation requires translators to work against thisgesture. In this aspect, the status of translator is raised to a certain high level in thetranslation of postmodernist fiction. What is briefly mentioned in the end of YuJianhua’s article here is elaborately discussed. Chu Jianfeng firstly explores themechanism of meaning production of postmodernist fiction from the perspective ofintertextuality. Then he proposes that the translator should pay attention to the pre-textof the original text. The translation strategy of postmodernist fiction is largely decidedby the number and degree of the knowledge of the pretext that is accessible to readers inthe target language culture. Next, he adapts a semiotic approach to observe the processof translation, which is displayed clearly in the following figure. From the above figure, a comparative textual analysis is implied. Since the pretextof postmodernist fiction generally follow the traditional pattern of fiction writing. Thisprocess may reduce the obstacles of translation of postmodernist fiction by turning theunfamiliar to the familiar. His research on the intertextuality of postmodernist fictionand a semiotic approach to its translation is quite innovative and convincing withexamples and objective analysis.Noticing the irregularity of postmodernist fiction, Zhang Lu also adoptsdeconstructive translation theory to guide the translation practice of postmodernistfiction. Different from the traditional translation theory, the deconstructive translationtheory pay much more attention to the difference and the equal status of the translatedtext with the original one. Therefore, preserving the difference rather than pursuing thefaithfulness becomes the key principle of translation.
