Chapter One Task Description

1.1 Source of the Task

The author got this English to Chinese translation of Cutting Teeth on Amazons homepage, a basic online bookstore, in July 2023. At first, the author searched the official website of Amazon for some newly released mystery novels, intending to relax after studying. Then during the search, the author found the novel Cutting Teeth very attractive to her, because it is a mystery novel with a vampire theme. Thus, the author had a very strong interest in this book. However, the author searched various websites and found no Chinese translation of this novel, so she decided to read the original English version. After reading the book, the author became more and more interested in the story and came up with the idea of translating this English novel into Chinese. With this idea in mind, the author found a classmate who learns MTI and also loves mystery novels and prepared to co-translate this novel into Chinese.

Cutting Teeth is a 110,000-word book published by Flatiron Books on July 18, 2023. The book focuses on a murder case at the Little Academy and the story of children suffering from being thirsty for blood. The main characters of the novel are several children and their parents. This book consists of 45 chapters, with the author translating chapters 30 to 45 and the author’s partner translating chapters 1 to 29. The translation task began in August 2023, and after translating and embellishments, the draft was finalized in December 2023. The author and her partner hope that the translation of this book can be officially published on the Internet.
