ete representation of the artistic image and artistic style with another literary language, so that the target language readers can enjoy the same beauty as the original readers.” (2000: 39)

The Aesthetics of Reception puts readers in an important position and shifts the focus of research to the relationship between the text and the reader. The creation of literary works should be accepted by readers first, and then the literary value can be realized. The term “Reception” here is not passive reception, but rather active acceptance. To some extent, the process in which readers have different feelings on literary works is based on their own cultural background, literary accomplishment and understanding ability. It is also the process in which readers participate in the value reconstruction of literary works. Only when readers understand and accept literary works with a subjectively positive attitude, can they achieve better effects of re-creation of reading, and the changes in the connotation of literary works and the development of literary value brought by readers have more epochal value and advanced value. When carrying out translation, a cross-cultural communication activity, translators should base on the needs of readers and pay attention to readers’ reading experience, so that readers can participate in reading behavior and realize the conversion from text to a real work.

Chapter Five Conclusion

In this practice report, the author reviews the whole process of translating the book Cutting Teeth and concludes a series of translation strategies under the guidance of Aesthetics of Reception. The greatest feature of Aesthetics of Reception is to establish the central position of readers. Translators with dual identities can adopt reduplicated words and four-character phrases to make the target readers get similar reading and aesthetic experience with the source text readers. Through the combination of domestication and foreignization translation strategies, translators can constantly approach the target readers’ horizon of expectation, so as to achieve the integration of the target readers’ horizon and the author’s horizon, helping the target readers grasp the spirit and connotation of the source text. In addition, it is necessary for translators to consciously adjust the word order and reproduce the rhetorical devices so that readers can grasp the basic information of the original text while experiencing the characteristics of the foreign language and culture. Although Isser believes that the amount of text blanks is proportional to the artistic value of literary works, from the perspective of Aesthetics of Reception, readers’ understanding and interpretation are always the root of literature reception. Therefore, translators can use footnotes and modal particles to fill in the text blanks.
