4.1 Lexical Equivalence

The translator has been summarizing terminology, nouns that appear in this textrepeatedly. Terminology is the most important part of the text. It is related to the authorityofthe entire text and thequality oftranslation.Itis thefocus of translation. There aremanynouns in the text that become verbs, and nouns transform verbs frequently during thetranslation process.

TranslationAnalysis:

According to the equivalence theory, in the translation of technical terms, we mustpursue the translation " closest natural equivalent ", so that the target language readers andthe source readers have similar understandings and reactions to the term. The term "watersecurity" in this article was found in the Bing dictionary for "用水安全;水安全;水资源安全". Searching on the terminology website: http://www.termonline.cn/index.htm,there is no standard translation of the term. However, when searching for "water security",it was found that "water resource security" was translated into "水资源安全" and anotherword "data security" was translated into "数据安全". Based on the translation of these twowords, according to the functional equivalence theory, I translated "water security" into "水安全", and I typed "water security 水安全" into Baidu browser at the same time for"inductivesearch", and foundout thatmessagefrom Ms.AudreyAzoulay,director-general of UNESCO, on the occasion of world water day. There is such usage in the speech, so thetranslation of the term was finally determined as "水安全". In this way, the translationrealizes the requirements of "closest natural equivalent" for functional equivalence, so thatthe reader can accurately understan
