I. Introduction

With the rapid development of science and technology, the world is becoming a global village. As a result, business contacts between countries are becoming more and more frequent. So, learning to communicate with another people from different culture is vital important to businesspersons.

Besides verbal communication, non-verbal communication, such as eye movement, posture, touch and facial expressions, is also of great importance. It can exert influences on people’s communication, reflecting people’s thoughts and complement the verbal communication. Psychologists claim that the impact people make on others depends on 7% what one says, 38% how one says it, and 55% by body language. Since how one sounds also conveys a message, 93% of emotion communicated without actual words. Thus, the businesspersons need to be very careful with their non-verbal information. It is certain that one’s unconscious movements, for example, the gesture of lifting of the eyebrows will be taken seriously.

Non-verbal languages have more advantages than verbal ones. They are of more directness, more convenience and more expressiveness. But they may cause some problems in cross-cultures business interactions. Therefore, appropriate use of non-verbal signals can help business people to achieve better understanding and contribute to further development of international business.
A positive and honest message conveyed by one’s non-verbal communication will generate far more opportunities than one can think. Non-verbal messages can move prospects from suspicion to openness and receptiveness. People can also use body language to calm hostile or dissatisfied clients.

II. The Definition and Function of Non-Verbal Communication
Since non-verbal communication is important and happens all the time, it is sensible to know the definition of non-verbal communication and its function. The knowledge about them is of much help in communication.
2.1 The Definition of Non-Verbal Communication
Different experts define non-verbal communication differently. Through studying of the definitions that researchers have given, here, it chooses and develops the points that seemed essential to businessmen, with respect to the ranges of non-verbal communication in business activities. It is defined as follow:
Non-verbal communication includes tone of voice, facial expression, eye language, posture, gesture, use of time, how one dresses him/herself, etc., all of which are used to communicate messages.
In business world, non-verbal communication also involves all those non-verbal stimuli in a communication setting that are generated by both the source and his or her use of environment and that have potential message values for the receivers.
2.2 The Function of Non-Verbal Communication
David Abercrombie pointed out “while we speak with out vocal organs, we converse with our whole bodies.” It is true that people never stop sending information during the whole process of communication, intentionally or unintentionally, through what they say, what they behave, how they dress themselves and how they set the environment. One can never stop non-verbal communicating, so people should know what the functions of non-verbal communication are.
2.2.1 Repetition
Non-verbal communication can reinforce what is said in verbal language. By repeating the verbal message nonverbally, as by a gesture, there is a better chance for the receiver to understand the message. For example, people might point in a certain direction after they have just said, “our company is north of the railway station.” And sometimes, people wave th
