How does e-learning influenced the classroom based education
in INTO of UEA
Background
E-learning is defined as ‘a general term covering many different learning approaches that have in common the use of information and communication technologies’ (Clarke, 2008). It generally includes the distance online studying and the computer utilization as an aid in traditional classroom-based education. E-learning is a wide area and in this research, I will only focus on the utilization of computer technology in classroom based education and study online through computer after class.
My focus as well as my interest originates from my new learning experience which is studying English language in INTO. The teaching approaches and materials are different from my experience in China before. During the study, I found e-learning, which was generally applied in English language courses there, had a great number of advantages in language teaching. Therefore, I want to make a study in terms of e-learning in English language course so as to evaluate its applicative effect on English language teaching. The research is likely to be benefit for not only educators and teachers, but for the learners to fully use it in hoping of improving the quality of language teaching and academic record. Additionally, it is also important to understand the application of e-learning in order to promote the process of its use in English language teaching in China.

The study aims at looking at the use of e-learning in traditional English courses in INTO of UEA as well as discovering its advantages and disadvantages. Besides, the research intends to find out the relevant skills and qualities which are required in terms of studying through computer. The research questions in my study are: a). what sorts of e-learning do the students use and how frequent do they use it? b). what are the advantages and disadvantages of e-learning? c). what kinds of skills and qualities should the students have so as to study through utilizing fully computer technology?
Review of literature
As the development of computer technology promotes the innovation of modern education system, e-learning plays an increasingly significant role in language courses. It is manifest that e-learning is a benefit for learners to study. In the first place, studying based on computer technology is in the interest of the improvement of learners’ academic performance. According to Lai and Kritsonis (2006), studying online through computers, as it can provide the available authentic resources for study, addresses the learners’ need so as to enhance their studying efficiency. Furthermore, Kung (2002) indicates that e-learning can cultivate learners’ quality of independence. Specifically, studying through e-learning offers an opportunity to the learners to manage and choose their studying time by themselves (Lai and Kritsonis, 2006). In addition to this, another good quality comes out in the meantime, that is self-confidence (Taylor, 1980). Because of the special learning environment, the learners are likely to have less pressure to make mistakes. Thirdly, as the students are given changes to learn by themselves, the teachers can have more time to improve other parts of the lessons, such as pronunciation and seminars in groups, which are unlikely to be learnt by computers (Jonassen, 1996). Moreover, studying with e-learning is benefit for learners who have different problems and weaknesses on language studying (Lee, 2000). The learners are able to focus on their different needs on studies to do extra work and exercises with an aim to improve their comprehensive level of langrage. Last but not least, the widespread application of computer technology helps alleviate the constraint of educational resources (Clarke, 2008). Since we can find and share a variety of the inf
