5 CONCLUSIONAND RECOMMENDATION
5.1 Conclusion
The Forest Operations Management Information System for the Linkou Forest Bureau,is designed to display the historical forest tending data. This is a very significant function fortheforest managersbecauseit helps to learn from thepast activitiesin order to prepare for futureones. In displaying the historical tending operations, it was found that some operations areaoverlap with each other which means that the same activity has been performed on the samearea for consecutive years, while there are some other areas in which the activities have not beendone at all. The typical example that has been found is the Hongshi forest farm in which thetending area during the year 2013 is exactly the same as the tending area during the year 2016.Also, in Shengli forest Farm, the activities have been performed for consecutive years, mostlyon the western part of the farm while the eastern part of the farm has never been touched. Thismight show a waste of resources if it is found that performed activities on the same area werenot necessary. Judging if the activity performed was necessary or not should be based on thetype of the tending methods used in the past. Displaying the past tending activities in the systemand on thematic maps by year is very helpful for forest managers and operators because itprovides useful information in planning for following years tending activities.
