Chapter 1 Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
According to the requirements of the General High School English CurriculumStandard(2020),the national college entrance examination has eliminated themultiple-choice questions that simply test grammar,replacing them with largereading,long cloze and 200-word writing,and emphasizing the examination ofstudents’ability to apply grammar.Therefore,the Teaching Method of EnglishGrammar urgently needs to be updated and improved.Grammar is the system rulethat makes up a language and is an important part of a language.As far as Englishteaching is concerned,Grammar Teaching plays an important role in High SchoolEnglish learning.Grammar not only affects students’academic performance butalso has a great impact on students’comprehensive ability.Students who do notunderstand the rules of grammar will find it difficult to communicate meaningfullyor even get high marks on English tests.
However,in the current teaching practice,most teachers still adopt theTraditional Grammar Teaching Method.In Traditional Grammar Teaching,teachersadopt relatively boring methods to directly arrange and explain grammar rules andexamples,which can easily lead to burnout in the learning process and makestudents gradually lose interest in English learning,which in turn affects theteaching effectiveness of teachers.Therefore,Grammar Teaching Method needs tobe improved,and how to teach grammar is a problem worth thinking about.Due tothe reform of the college entrance examination,the exam pays more attention to theuse of Grammar in context rather than simple multiple choice.
1.2 Significance and Purpose of the Study
At present,students still have many problems in English grammar learning.And English grammar teaching is also a challenging work for English teachers.Inorder to facilitate the implementation of the curriculum within the limited timeavailable,teachers usually use the mechanical Grammar Translation Method in thegrammar classes.Therefore,students gradually lose the interest of learninggrammar and even feel sleepy in the boring classes.Furthermore,they don’t do wellenough in the scores of English grammar.
As the General High School English Curriculum Standard(2020)required,teachers should learn more advanced teaching methods and apply them in their daily teaching life.And in the teaching process,teachers should incorporate the textinto a scenario for presentation.Therefore,the Situational Teaching Method meetsthe requirement of the General High School English Curriculum Standard(2020).By creating situations in which students are interested,students can gradually beguided to master the content of subject knowledge,and students will have a deeperunderstanding of knowledge.
In the new era of the Information Technology,except for some remote ruralareas,most schools are basically equipped with Multimedia Teaching tools,but howteachers can better apply these Multimedia tools in daily teaching activities needsfurther study and reflection.Teachers can create appropriate scenes when usingMultimedia Teaching,so that the teaching process is not boring,so as to stimulatestudents’interest in learning.The Situational Teaching Method assisted byMultimedia is an innovation in this new era,which can improve the efficiency ofEnglish grammar teaching.It could help students master complex grammar rules.And by applying this method,students can easily improve their grammarperformance and grammar application ability.
