当今，自由贸易化和经济全球化快速发展，研究自由贸易区的内涵、运作方式和目前的发展趋势，积极寻找建设自由贸易区的方法和途径是非常必要的。对自由贸易区的研究，不仅有利于中国实行有重点、高层次、全方位的对外开放，还能推动中国经济的发展和国际接轨。本文运用现代国际贸易理论，从研究背景与意义入手，先是阐述了国内外研究现状以及本文的研究方法与思路，接着分析了我国及国际自由贸易区的发展态势，包括自由贸易区的涵义、我国自由贸易区发展状况以及国际自由贸易区发展现状和世界自由贸易区对比研究，然后对无锡市建设自由贸易区的需求及意义进行了分析，而后从无锡建设自由贸易区的有利条件、无锡建设自由贸易区的不确定因素、无锡市建设自由贸易区的基本原则三方面分析了无锡市建设自由贸易区的可行性，并交代了无锡自由贸易区的选址及理由，在前面分析的基础上对无锡市建设自由贸易区的模式选择与实施进行分析，主要包括无锡市自由贸易区的模式选择及目标确定、无锡市自由贸易区的管理模式、基于 SWOT 分析的发展策略以及未来自由贸易区投资估算和效益预测和建设无锡自由贸易区的实施步骤、无锡市拟建自由贸易区的保障措施，最后总结性的指出了本研究的结论与展望。
本研究主要得出以下结论：第一，由于无锡市自贸区经济的发展情况，将直接关系到江苏省甚至整个东南亚地区未来经济发展的趋势，所以尽管无锡拥有着很多优势条件，并把握住了发展的机会，但还是不能对此掉以轻心，忽略了那些可能会潜在发生的风险。第二，要为自贸区确定一个战略发展规划，以便把自贸区逐步打造成一个可以带动东南亚经济整体快速发展的口岸型地区，通过创新发展的方式，推进产业结构的升级改造，为中国经济的发展创造新的增长点。第三，要想顺利的完成建设无锡自贸区的任务，就离不开各级政府给予的优惠政策方面的支持，还要进一步完善各类监管系统，为最终顺利建成自由贸易区奠定相关的制度基础。ABSTRACT

Second, to define a strategic development plan for the FTA, FTA in order to gradually create a play area in Southeast Asia can drive the port type rapid development of economy as a whole, through the development of innovative ways to promote the upgrading of industrial structure for China economic development to create new growth points.
