“Soldier is a sacred job. They devote their finite life to infinite service for the country and people.” My grandfather speaks to me with a sense of honor through the camera. His sunny smile and straight back seem like he is still young, while his “skin and bone” body and the wrinkle on his face tell his real age. Though my grandfather is not young any more, he is still in a fine fettle. In his words, www.51lunwen.orghe is healthy because he has a “soul of soldier”, while in fact, he just does deep breathing exercise and shadowboxing everyday in the morning. With the interview going on, he becomes concentrated on his experience. From his eyes, I can see his excitement and enthusiasm of being a soldier.
My grandfather was born in a poor family in a small town in Szechwan Province, China. Because he was the eldest brother in his family, he had to take care of his parents and his younger brother and sister and he never went to school. In June, 1950, he joined voluntary army to aid Korea in “Korean War”. Three years later, he came back to China and became an official in the local government sector.
