Repetition in English and It Rhetoric 【Abstract】: Repetition is a significant rhetorical device, repeatedly used in novels, poems, speeches and some other literary forms. Its form of expression is closely related to its orientation in usage. To understand this can assist a better grasp of the meaningfulness of some writing. Restatement may hammer at one key idea by repeating and emphasizing it in different ways. Such a frequently used rhetorical device, however, has not been paid due attention to in the study of rhetoric. The present paper, through the analysis of concrete examples of repetition in the English language, attempts to show how this rhetorical device achieves emphatic results in respect of pronunciation, word formation and semantic effect. 【Key words】: repetition, emphasis, rhetorical device
