2.1.1 Glossary Building

After receiving the interpreting task in late May,the interpreter kept in touchwith the organizer,asked for the company profile and learned that the main topic ofthe negotiation was about cooperation and investment on curriculum development.Then the interpreter made full use of the time to prepare.First,the interpretertranslated the company profile into English and made a glossary of some of the vocabularies extracted for business negotiation.In addition,the interpreter foundsome online courses from the Bilibili,a video software,and obtained many courseresources.After watching some of the videos,the interpreter chose the course“OxfordBusiness English”to learn some professional expressions on business negotiations,then summarized some details related to business and curriculum development bysearching the information on the Internet and built a glossary of terminology.Thefollowing is part of glossary in Table 2.1.1.

2.2 On-interpreting Performance

The first round of business negotiations in this interpreting practice started from3:01 p.m.to 4:00 p.m.on June 10,2022.On August 18,2022,the second round ofonline business negotiations was held from 7:54 p.m to 8:49 p.m,with the totalduration of the two rounds of negotiations being 1 hour and 52 minutes and 20seconds.In the two rounds of business negotiations,the Chinese speaker took his office as the working place,while both the foreign teacher and the interpreterparticipated in the online meeting at home.To ensure the authenticity of theinterpreting task,the interpreter used EV Recording software to record the entireinterpreting process with the consent of the Chinese speaker.

2.2.1 Interpreting Process

During the pandemic,the opportunities of interpreting practice are very rare.Andthrough continuous efforts,the interpreter gained valuable practice chance andconducted two rounds of remote business negotiations mainly about investmentcooperation in developing Business English,IELTS and TOEFL.The first round ofonline business negotiation was held on June 10,2022 from 3:01 p.m.to 4:00 p.m.The two parties reached a cooperative intention and discussed the amount ofinvestment,the share of ownership and the mode of investment.On August 18,2022from 7:54 p.m to 8:49 p.m,the second round of remote business negotiation was heldto discuss the specific details of course development project,such as target groups,teaching methods,teachers and so on.
