Dear students,
With the development of science and technology, the quality of people faces a comprehensive challenge. Mental health is considered as a breakthrough of the overall quality of education and it’s very popular in modern society.
As a subject, mental health is very popular in modern society. It is a branch of clinical medicine which is to study the causes of mental illness, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, disease treatment, and refers to the study and treatment of mental illness as well as a positive mental state of individuals to adapt to surroundings. Many foreign researchers have explored the standards of mental health from their different perspectives, and such researches usually refer to the individual’s adaptation to surroundings, the relation between their behaviors and social norms and symptoms, etc.
Mental health consists of lots of aspects, e.g. mental disorders refer to the mental problems which are of diagnostic significance, and characterized by cognitive, emotional and behavioral changes, etc, and may be associated with the painful experiences or functional damages; and psychosomatic diseases which refer to a set of physical and mental stress-related diseases, etc. Offenders with mental disorders are peculiarly ‘at risk’ of being perceived as posing an unquantifiable danger, and thus, peculiarly apt for the ubiquitous focus on risk management (Peay, Jill, 2002, p.747). As risk is transposed into danger, dangerous individuals are singled out for special attention, and the responsibility for preventing and managing risk is transferred to those professionals dealing with or caring for them (Douglas, 1992). The psychological and social factors have a relatively important role in the occurrence, development, treatment and prognosis of the disease.
As a major of psychiatry, I’m very interested in mental health from the very beginning. When I was a child, I was very impressed by the gifted Dutch post-impressionist artist, Vincent van Gogh, who had his life shattered by mental illness. He suffered from Bipolar I Disoder at a time in history when there was no treatment for this common disorder. Tragically, he died of suicide. If it is today, the mental illness can be successfully treated, so from that time I have determined to prevent these tragedies. I hope I can do something for the people who are suffering from the mental illnesses. As the psychiatry major, we want to make our own contributions to the mental health of the human beings, help those who are suffering from serious mental health, or who want to change the health system of the country. Actually, it meets with great favor.
As we all know that the reasons that the current students who consider mental health as the sub-major or elective stem from many reasons. If we are very familiar with this subject, we can help those people who are suffering from the mental diseases, change the current health system and we can make a great deal of money as mental health is very popular. We should know that the only way to release one’s mental pressure is to adapt to the nature as well as society; the approaches to reach mental health (zhuang zhou). To be the psychiatry major, we can promote our existing skills, leadership skills, and career prospects of the students, enhance the confidence of them, and provide the academic experience of them. What’s more, you can learn the communication skills so that you can behave very well in the future. It focuses the education in a more specific area of interest, and gives you the direction for you career on mental health in the future and makes the students more competitive in the job hunting.
The ways for us to help those people who have mental problems involve general support, reassurance, teaching of coping skills, and relaxation techniques that are not intended to get trauma victims to focus on their memories and would seem to be benign and helpful. But when every member of a traumatized population is treated, the simpl
