Abstract
Dispute settlement mechanism (DSM) is a distinctive, new and complex system in the field of contemporary international economic dispute settlement. Every country that involves in the international trade will certainly be affected by the development of the external trade disputes settlement mechanism. So it is very necessary and urgent to study and find out the corresponding measures. In recent years, researches on the dispute settlement mechanism have been attached to great attention. These researches not only affirm the positive functions of the mechanism, but also put forward a good number of corresponding suggestions for the problems exposed in practice. We should not be satisfied with DSM's present achievements, but more important we should point out its defects from the angle of its future development. And that means a lot for us to grasp firmly and comprehensively the present conditions and the future direction of DSM.
