eBusiness
Some eBusiness information borrowed from eBiz4Teens, http://library.advanced.org/28188"Amazon.com opened their virtual doors in July of 1995. Their mission was to "use the Internet to offer products that educate, inform, and inspire". So they built their website, an online store that is customer friendly and easy to navigate. Oh yeah, and it currently offers 4.7 million, yes MILLION, books, CDs, audiobooks, DVDs, computer games, and more."
Electronic Business
Doing business online.
As complex as it's definition is, that is pretty much what eBusiness is. Running a business on the Internet. But running a successful eBiz operation requires several steps. The first is probably the most obvious one."An entrepreneur (on-tra-pra-nur), is someone who starts and runs their own business.Usually when an entrepreneur starts a new business, it is called a start-up. Most internet start-ups (eBusinesses, or business based on the web) are based on new concepts
and ideas."After the owner thinks of a service/product to sell, it has to do it.Almost all eBusinesses operate out of a web site. The object of the site is both advertise/tell about the service/product, and to market it.Why eBusiness? Well, not everyone in the world buys things off the Internet, so the market is drastically smaller than selling something from a store. But is it? Actually, selling a product from a store is very inefficient because the market is limited to people who are able to go to the store. A cafe in Boston can't expect to get many
visitors from downtown London. This is why the Internet is so appealling. A product can be sold to anyone in the world, regardless of where they are.Additionally, consider this: If a company advertises a product on a billboard, they can't tell for sure how many people have seen it. They can guestimate or assume the total, but there is no total for sure. This is not the case of web page technology. With CGI technology, user "hits" can be counted instantly and accurately. If an owner notices a lack of users to the site, he/she can then arrive at the solution that he/she requires more advertising for the business.
"Faster modems and connections to the Internet inspires many to jump on the internet bandwagon, whether the jump be for personal or business use. More and more people want to bring their existing business online to take advantage of the Internet, which explains the huge demand for great web designers."Technology is continuing to grow. It is estimated that by 2004, almost every single person on the planet will have access to the Internet. Web site advertising has already surpassed billboard advertising, a remarkable feat. The Internet is the market of the future, and many are taking advatage of it.
So how is it accomplished? Most business today has to be Interactive. Sending an e-mail
manually to buy a product would be considered a very poor system. Instead, users are finding that they can fill out forms, and sometimes the website can even rememember what the user has bought, and calculate what he/she might like to buy in the future. All this interactive stuff occurs as a result of CGI; Computer Gateway Interface. HTML,the language that websites are built in, is not capable of being interactive. It is able to send information through CGI, which really refers to programming languages that can send data back to a webpage. For info on how to program in Perl, a CGI language, click here.
Security
With the arrival of networking and multi user systems, security has always been on the mind of system developers and system operators. Since the dawn of AT&T and its phone network, hackers have been known by many, hackers who find ways all the time of breaking into systems. It used to not be that big of a problem, since networking was limited to big corporate
companies or government computers who could afford the necessary computer security.
The biggest problem now-a-days is personal informatio
