My passion for studying Accounting and Finance arises from my father who has devoted his life to this field.Inspired by his work I gained an understanding of this career and I realized that Accounting and Finance is not just limited to the process of recording financial data.As well as being an accountant I would like to study finance,I appreciate that in addition to basic accounting records,a manager will consider many aspects before making the right decision based on financial knowledge.I also attended a talk at my college on careers in Chartered Accountancy which gave me further insight into the varied work that they participate in.
It is not common for high school students in China to seek an internship.I managed,however,to work for the People's Bank of China,which is China's Central Bank (July 2012).It was a thrilling opportunity for me,because this was the first time that I acquired knowledge on periodic reports and statements.I also learnt the configuration and function of Enterprise and Personal credit information databases,and realized that Accounting shows information on balance sheets and cash flow statements to both managers and investors.In addition,I found that accurate information on quality, reliability and significance would influence users' decisions.At the same time,I participated in a one-day promotion of personal credit information to the general public in the hall of the People's Bank of China's office.I was astonished by the seemingly simple process - to merge theoretical models and data with real life experience,making the numbers come alive and letting the statistics tell their own story.And that was when I realized that to be a good accountant,I needed to possess not only proficiency in data analysis,but also social experience to"visualize"such data.
Proficiency to a high level of mathematical skill is very useful to any academic or professional career.These skills enable the accountant to process the numerical data and derive information applicable to the preparation and presentation of financial statements.The problem solving and decision making skills that I have learned in Mathematics can be transferred to an Accounting and Finance setting.Such knowledge will definitely make me competitive in this career.In addition,I chose Chemistry because I enjoy academically challenging subject.Additionally I learnt to be careful and precise in laboratory work,for example in a titration.Here,as in accountancy,a tiny mistake could lead to a significant difference in the expected result.
My active participation in various extracurricular activities has helped me become more mature than what I used to be.Through participation in the Duke of Edinburgh Award,I have both developed the ability to work and collaborate with others and to focus on the task before me.In the meantime,it gave me opportunities to polish my ability to communicate, which I expect to be immeasurably useful in my future career.I have also tried my hand on the stock market,by learning to invest in shares of certain companies.I gained an understanding of the trading mechanism in China's stock market.It is potentially risky to deal in stocks and shares but with my financial knowledge and careful analysis,I have successfully made a profit.I am good at playing Erhu(a traditional Chinese two-stringed instrument played with a bow).It helps me to be calm and enable me to focus when I feel stressed.
With proficiency in all the skills that I have gained,I never stop thirsting for knowledge and believe that one can never possess enough of this.I am looking forward to my degree course at university and will enjoy the variety of topics within the disciplines of Economics,Management, Business,Accounting and Finance.
